Michigan Chemistry Council Government Affairs Committee

The MCC's November Government Affairs Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 21st from 10:00 - 11:30am EST. Please note the date change!

The meeting will be held at the MCC’s offices, 326 W Ottawa St, Lansing. If you cannot attend in person, please use dial-in number 989-372-9023; conf. code: 605679

We plan to spend most of our time discussing the increasingly-visible issue of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). This issue has come to the forefront with PFAS contamination at four different Air Force bases in the state, and now the Wolverine World Wide company's sites in Belmont and Rockford. While PFAS is currently considered a class of emerging contaminants that is not yet regulated, the issue has garnered significant attention from the MDEQ, the MDHHS, and other agencies.

We have also been informed that a number of state lawmakers may be interested in drafting legislation as a response to the issues in their districts.

We have confirmed that Jessica Bowman, director of the ACC's FluoroCouncil, will join us (by phone) for the meeting to share the perspective of the chemical manufacturing industry. We've also invited MDEQ staff to join us to present the latest information and discuss how this issue affects the business of chemistry in our state. A full agenda will be distributed in a future reminder message.
