9/23/20 - Michigan Chemistry Council Commends Governor Whitmer’s Climate Action Goals

The Michigan Chemistry Council (MCC) today welcomed Governor Whitmer’s announcement of climate goals and the collaborative development of long-term sustainability solutions for our state.

“The business of chemistry recognizes the need for climate solutions and appreciates Governor Whitmer’s leadership in moving our state forward in addressing this challenge,” said MCC Executive Director John Dulmes.

“The business of chemistry plays a critical role in achieving a sustainable future by enabling innovations like solar panel materials, batteries for electric cars, and lightweight vehicle parts. We are particularly encouraged by the Governor’s attention to energy-efficient buildings as a key pathway to reducing our state’s carbon emissions. And as a significant manufacturing sector, our industry is continuously reducing its own energy use and impacts.”

“The MCC and our members look forward to working with state leaders and other partners to develop climate policies that help address this issue while growing jobs and increasing our state’s competitiveness.”

The Michigan Chemistry Council, established in 1967, represents Michigan’s chemical manufacturers, formulators and distributors. Chemistry is one of Michigan’s largest manufacturing sectors, supporting more than 90,000 Michigan jobs and directly impacting more than 96% of all manufactured goods.
