Date:     March 1, 2023

On behalf of the Michigan Chemistry Council’s board, we wanted to update you about the MCC’s evolution in 2023. This week, we are delighted to announce our new MCC Executive Director, Sara Cambensy. Sara most recently served in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the Marquette area through the end of 2022. Prior to her election to the state legislature, she served on the Marquette City Commission, Marquette Planning Commission, and as the director of adult and continuing education for Marquette Community Schools, in addition to other roles. Sara was a recognized legislative leader with a record of working across the aisle to advance good policy and represent her constituents.

Sara’s hiring is the first step in the plan established by the MCC’s Board of Directors to strengthen the organization, grow our influence, and increase our ability to impact chemistry issues. MCC has also completed an affiliation with the Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA), a statewide organization with a 120-year proven track record and unwavering commitment to serve Michigan manufacturers.  MCC will remain an independent organization with an autonomous chemistry policy agenda while leveraging MMA’s capacities for advocacy, programming and staff support.

“We think this a brand new day of opportunity for both MMA and MCC,” said John Walsh, MMA President and CEO said in welcome. “We are two strong organizations with long histories of success and together we can build upon Michigan’s manufacturing legacy.”

For more than 55 years, the MCC has worked to shape policies and priorities that advance the industry. These two aggressive actions will position the MCC for the future and provide untold value to members who will now have access to wide-ranging advocacy efforts, workforce solutions, education, networking, cost-saving services and much more. MCC members may notice a few initial changes, including an office relocation to the MMA building at 620 S. Capitol Ave, Lansing MI 48933. Sara will work closely with the MCC’s board and committee leaders in the coming weeks and looks forward to engaging with MCC members.
