"Progress Toward Achieving Sustainable Firefighting Foams for Challenging Chemistries"
Presented by Wacker Chemical Corporation
Thursday, February 16th at 2:30pm ET

Many companies are aware of the concerns regarding PFAS and PFOS substances present in AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foams) used for firefighting. Regulatory restrictions are being put in place so that these foams must be replaced by 2025 or sooner in some jurisdictions. There are replacement F3 (Fluorine Free Foams) which have been tested using standard hydrocarbon challenge agents, but there is little information for their performance with other types of flammable chemicals such as, though not limited to, those commonly found in the silicones industry.

Wacker Chemical Corporation has conducted internal testing and is working with regional industry associations on testing programs to evaluate the performance of these new foams using water-reactive flammable chlorosilane, alkoxysilane, siloxane, and silazane challenge agents.  We will discuss aspects of the development and use of replacement AFFF foams, including current progress toward the selection of suitable alternatives.

This complimentary program will be a valuable update for leaders in manufacturing, consulting, safety, fire services, and others to illustrate how the chemical industry is working toward solutions for this challenge. CEU certificates will be available for Michigan PE credits and others upon request.
